Memorial - Herman C Lyons

Picture
Herman was present the day Pinellas Airlines was chosen as the name for Steve's new virtual airline in 1987
when the plans were being drawn up. He was not only present, he was very much in approval and enthusiasm.
For whatever Steve did, Herman took a great interest in. Herman served as an Officer for Pinellas Airlines until his retirement in the 1990s.Herman worked for the J.C.Penney Co as a regional manager
over "Visual Presentation", what would later be called Visual Merchandising. Anything at all to do with the overall appearance of the store, or in other words, "What you see" when you first park your car in the lot and proceed toward
the doors. Herman helped "open" many stores in the 1960s before being promoted to overseeing many stores in the region. He was based/officed out of Kingsport TN. His primary store before that was the Johnson City Penney store.
Christmas was an exciting time at J.C.Penney and around the Lyons household.
One of the many duties that Herman preformed during his years with Penney's was to decorate all the Christmas Trees
in the store and the entire store itself. Each year, the decorations were a little different and it was interesting to see what new colors and styles would be selected this year. By the time all this was done, he was just too exhausted to want to decorate the tree at home, but family members gladly took over at that point and did fine justice to his styles and ways of doing things. What a fine tradition that continues to this day.
Herman had served in the U.S. Army starting in 1951 for a course of two years and then eight more in reserves.
For a total of 10 years of Army service.
I will write more later on. This is the first posting and it's only been a little more than a week since his interment at Mountain Home Veterans Center in Johnson City TN.
